Andrew has one chance to pull himself up from his humble beginnings and make something of himself. He has been found to have a spark of magic deep within himself. To bring it forth he must first learn to summon the familiar. He must use every drop of his magic to search the Lands of Mist and find the one meant for him. The one he will be bonded to for life. The one who is actually capable and willing to make all his dreams possible. Andrew may be small now, but he has big dreams.

this story has some gamelit elements but primarily it is a day in the life story about a boy taking his first steps to becoming a man in a magical world by trying to master the magic he finds himself capable of.

"Main character start week and unappreciated, gains a little strength and is catapulted into another Society where he is still unappreciated, and his power is not yet recognized.
Looking forward to book two, where I hope the character will leave the small pond that the school has become and face a more serious set of threats, there does not seem to be much at the school to challenge him now; but the school is just kids and there are real threats in this world. Still I like a leading lady, even if it is only a hopeful dream."

To Summon the Familiar Familiars of the Phoenix Empire edition by Marty Myers Children eBooks Reviews

  • I'll be honest, I like the story. I like the characters. I even have to admit that the plot is better than many I've read.

So why just 2 stars. It comes down to one simple flaw that is common to the LitRPG/Anime inspired tales. The main character is just too powerful.

I don't want to give this review, but I feel I have to, because it does bother me a lot that the main character has been given so much power. It really detracted from the relationship building and classes that most magical academy tales gain the most strength from. Instead this tale becomes something of a strange pokemon duel descriptive series, with the main character's familiar forced to fight again and again (and again, and again) due to the strange nature of the school and the students. It ruined my enjoyment enough that in the end I took away 1.5 stars and dropped a story from high 3 (posted as 4 star) to low 2 (and posted as 2 star)
  • I can't Waite for the next one to come out. The story was really frustrating, in that by 45% through the book you knew you would only get into two weeks of the school, and knew you would left needing more. When the next books are not even written yet. the story was well laid out, and character development was great. Other than wanting the story longer and the next books out, there was a few things that did slow down the story flow. The author had a lot of repeat or too lengthy too detail ed explanation s that could have been more succinct my worded. I could easily skip over a few paragraphs with out looking the flow of the story line, when explaining the way magic worked in this new wonderful world. However, nothing extra editing on story flow and content could not easily fix. I still feel in love with this story and need many more books in this series.it has so may wonderful possibility and I need more!!

  • This book was a new twist in LitRpg. - the main character as well as most people get power/magic by summoning familiars to bond with and the type of familiar affects what the summoner can and can't do in many ways. I am already looking forward to next book in series
  • I tried this one more on a whim than anything else. It is a surprisingly engaging story. I really enjoyed it. I’ll definitely be looking for the next one.
  • Ok this was a seriously good book. I am like an addict jonesing for my next fix. So please hurry with the next in the series.
  • Nice read , a little slow and a wee bit confusing for me. But the book straighten everything out . I will buy the next one
  • This book starts a little slow. I considered shelving it in favor of the next book on my to read list but i enjoyed Martys other books so i stayed with it and am glad I did. I am a fairly harsh critic at times and only give 5 stars to books I couldnt put down.
